By and large, the attorneys that act as prosecutors for the City of Seattle are very well trained, knowledgeable, experienced and talented. Of all the prosecuting attorney’s offices we deal with, there seems to be the least amount of turnover within this office. Accordingly, the prosecutor in your case may very well be an attorney with 10-20 years experience prosecuting DUIs, if not more. The benefit of that experience is that they tend to spot weaker cases sooner than most and they appreciate defendants who are proactive. They also, however, are generally very skilled advocates for their client, the City of Seattle.
It is the function of the City Attorney's office to prosecute the laws of the City of Seattle and the State of Washington as they pertain to Seattle. While, practically speaking, it is their job to seek convictions for the crimes that they charge, they also have a competing duty to ensure that justice is done.
